Frantisek Drtikol (1883 – 1961) was a Czech photographer of international renown. What he is really well known for is his characteristically epic photographs. His pictures often perform nude feminine bodies and various portraits.
Drtikol was the one who created a studio on the fourth floor of one of the Prague’s remarkable buildings in 1919. He worked there for some time until the moment when he decided to give up photographing models completely. He now was using the paper cut-outs. The artist called this “photopurism”. These works resembled silhouettes of the human form. As the time passed by Drtikol came to the conclusion he should give up photography completely – and that was what he did. He dedicated the rest of his life to painting and was now a well-known artist.
His photo works displayed on this page are of great creativity and good taste. They reflect the inner world of the photographer and the beauty of the human flesh. These feminine bodies seem to be made of air. It is as if the flesh and the soul of these women were combined in Drtikol’s photos. It would be more than difficult not to admire the talent and the beauty when observing this gallery.
